Still having issues configuring MC 23 in my setup
« on: January 02, 2018, 11:29:39 am »

I have a Mac Mini running High Sierra, a PS Audio DS DAC & MC 23. I have the following settings:
Audio Device:
PS Audio USB Audio (Core Audio).
DSP & Output settings;

None = files play fine, but DAC shows no higher than 48KHz.
       If I select DSD in DoP   I get loud hiss with the audio barely audible.

OK, while writing this I checked & apparently I have to select each output sample rate & manually change it to "No change". Now the DAC is showing an appropriate 192K 24 Bit. I was expecting all output sample rates to change to "No change" when I selected "None" for Output encoding.
Are the above settings correct?
Frustrated with the availability of relevant & up to date setup instructions for MC 23 or PS Audio DS DAC.

First, I'm assuming your DAC is connected via USB.
In DSP studio if the upper left output format box has a check in it then the options become meaningful otherwise they are not used and the output is passed through as-is.

If output format is checked:
The output encoding box determines the type of output produced. The Sample rate is specifically to control the sample rate output.
If you want to change all of the sample rate settings at once, say to No Change, Right-Click on any one of them. Left clicking allows changing only the one you click on.

Finally, MC will do some of those sample rate settings on it's own if you try to play a file and the current device reports an error. To prevent this auto configuration look under the advanced audio settings for Auto configure output settings on playback failure (which defaults to yes).

In addition to what Bob posted, if you're having issues with DSD (with DSD bitstreaming enabled) then 1) open the Audio MIDI Setup app, find your PS Audio DS and set it to the highest bit-depth and sample rate available (some DACs need this to get DSD working) and 2) make sure system volume is set to 100%.

Thanks for the replies. I think it's working OK now. Regarding the Midi Audio settings. They are fixed at 16/192 & Will not change. Also Should NC be identifying my DAC as PS Audio DirectStream DAC? It shows "PS AUdio USB
Audio 2.0 Output (Core Audio)".
