Cloned library for Idpi?
« on: January 23, 2018, 12:09:09 pm »

I am currently working on retagging my classical music collection as the first stage of tagging my entire music collection.  The music files are stored on a powered usb 2Tb drive, but I may transfer to 4Tb as the drive is nearly full.
I am using JRMC23 on a Win10 desktop  :-X and the library is on the hard drive of the pc.

Is it possible, when I have completed tagging, to clone the library from this pc and put it on the drive with the music files and then have the Idpi MC use that library for playing to my dac?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm not a pro user of this software, but maybe i can help you because if i understand you correctly i had a similar topic in the past. Someone with more experience may correct me if i am wrong.

If you want to restore the library (not the files!) from WinPC to the IdPi you could do it the following way:

1. Backup your library on the WinPC (the backup only includes the library)
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Library_Backup

2. Move the library to the idPi

3. Restore library on idPi -- This could take a little

4. Rename, Move, Copy Files on idPi and select option "Update database to point to new location (no file rename, move, or copy)"
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Rename,_Move,_and_Copy_Files

5. Change the path to the music files from WinPC (e.g. C:\..) to the path where the files are located on the idPi (e.g. mnt/...)

I would suggest to read the wiki linked in my post. This helped me a lot.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to clone the library? If you save the tags in the files and the fields are standard MC library fields you don't necessarily have to clone the library, as the tags will show up also in a separate library.
My use case was to transfer the views and manual playlists, as they are stored in the library.

That's really helpful, thanks.
I'll hit the wiki link you gave and study it.

I'm sure I'll get there in the end.
