Extract Album Art when "Inside File"
« on: June 17, 2003, 04:00:02 pm »

Hi,

Here's my problem:

For a while I was storing album art inside the tag info of my audio files, but I've decided that I don't want to do that anymore.  For most of the album art images, I don't have the actual image stored else where on my PC.  Is there a way to, with a few clicks, go through all my files and extract the album art embedded in the tag info into my "Track Images Location"?  If so, how?  If not, could this be a feature that is added in the future?

Thanks,

Wobbley

Wobbley again...

Actually, now that I think about it, would there be a way to extract the album art from the files, but before doing so, specify how and where I want the image file(s) extracted? I'd like to be able to say something like "Go through each of my audio files and extract the image file as "folder.jpg" into the file path where the audio file is located?  For reasons unrelated to Media Center's abilities, I like for each folder on my PC to display the album art image when I am physically browsing through my folders (using WinXp Pro).

Thanks again,

Ingo,

Before I download this app, does it do this in batch mode?  I don't see any reference to it on the page you linked.  MC can extract art to clipboard for pasting, but you have to do it for each file...no batch process.

Thanks,

Album View will do this I think - it's a plugin for MC.

Give it a shot :)

This will also do the trick....

Set that "saveinsidefiles" regkey to 0 to disable the feature, goto options > file naming and location and set the default image location, select a bunch of files and do "update library from tags" and it will dump the cover pics in the default dir using [artist] - [album].jpg for filename, and at the same time, maintain the links to the said coverart.
Assuming you're tags and you're library are in synch, the only changes will be to the coverart.

Wobbley,

yes... I think so. you probably should set it to work only on track# 1 and the scan subfolders, select everything, export the image to a file.... (didn't realy use it that way...)

I've just start playing with the program but I still can't figure how to do that. Ingo: any idea? Wobbley: any success?

ok... let's get started....

- navigate to the folder you want to work on...
- hit TAG on the toolbar
- on the lower left, select mp3 (if that's what you want) and enter an apropriate filemask. that would be 01* for first tracks on my naming scheme....
- on top of the white area on the right, look for scan.
- hit it.
- on the same 'toolbar' as scan, look for lyrics/pictures...
- hit it.
- ok... now I'll leave you on your own.... never did the rest of it ;-)

Haven't tried the app proposed by Ingo yet.  Will try Marko's suggestion.  Actually, what Marko suggests would be virtually perfect if I could chose a "folder.jpg" naming scheme instead of "Album-Artist.jpg" naming scheme.  I'll just have to move and rename after the extraction takes place.

Thanks for the help.  If anyone else tries Imgo's suggested app, could you let me know how it worked for you?

Cheers!

MC does this -- it's just hidden in the current build.

Next beta, pick some files and right-click -> cover art -> and turn off "store internal".  The files get moved to MC's cover art folder, which is configurable.

I always make a "Cover Art" folder under "Music" and use that.  Cleaner than next to the files in my opinion.
