Start up questions
« on: February 23, 2018, 07:05:49 pm »

I'm very sorry for the following questions.  I consider myself decently computer literate (but no experience with Linux) - but I'm stumped.  I just purchased a Nuc Id from JRiver.  I'm into the program and I have no idea how to point the Nuc (running Linux) to my windows 7 music files.  I have it directly connected via ethernet.  I just don't see where the options are.
Also - on other problem that is making it hard to navigate around.  I have 55" tv screen and some of the text are slightly off the screen and I can't move the windows.  Also, when I put it in Theater mode just to see what it looked like I noticed some of the tabs at the top of the screen were off the top of the screen as well and I had a hard time making out what they were.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated - thanks (and thanks for your patience).

You need to tell the Id to mount the drive.

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Id_Install_Guide

Then you need to set MC auto-import options.  It's under the Tools menu in MC.

Thanks for trying to help but I'm not seeing anything on that wiki about "mounting". Are they using a different term?
Also, any idea about why some buttons/windows/words are slightly off my TV screen so I'm not able to read them?
Thanks

There is a section called "NAS Drives and USB Drives".

Try rebooting.  Your screen resolution may be off.

I've tried rebooting - no luck (still words off the screen).
I've found the External Media Menu - is this where I need to be?
I've tried entering the info every which way with no luck
//Computer name/folder/folder    that is my network path (where I have specific names for the computer name and folders)

I don't know what else to do?

ok - got "success" when entering the network info.  Now how to find the mount in MC and import my music?
Thanks for sticking with me.

Completely stuck. Been working on this for hours and have no idea where to go after the "success" I got in the External Media Menu.
Where do I find the drive that was mounted?  Can't find this info on any search or wiki.
Tried auto import and it shows no files.

In External Media Menu it says I have a mounted share at /mnt/myshare. How do I get MC to import it?
Thanks

In MC, try setting Auto-Import now.  Tools > Import ...

When asked for the location of a folder to watch, browse to the device.

When I try to edit the folders to watch it throws a new window in the upper left corner of the screen which is impossible to read because it is off the screen just enough that I can't make out the options (and I can't move the window).  However, from what I can see I don't think I see my mount called myshare.

You should check your TV's menus for an "overscan" option and disable it.
It may be in the picture size or aspect ratio options.

More problems....I gave up on finding my music and started using another server I have set up. It's playing but no sound.....nuc to Marantz via hdmi (video but no audio). All the other things I've got connected to the receiver work fine and I know the hdmi cord is fine.

Thanks for the tip - that did it.  I've never noticed it before in 10 years owning the tv:)

Finally making progress - found my shares and currently importing.
But still one huge problem - still no sound.
It must be some setting in MC.  Receiver is working in every other way with different inputs...
