Theater View Locking Up

For some reason since 23.0.102 when ever I view something in theater view my computer locks up exiting the movie, youtube whatever. I've waited because usually a new version comes out to fix it but it's been a while so..

It could be that a Windows update has messed something up. Some people have had to upgrade their video drivers to fix such problems after Windows updates. Also make sure any Windows updates have completed properly by rebooting the PC.

If that doesn't work, try backing up MC, uninstalling, reinstalling, and then restoring the backup you just made including settings. Then aim here is to get MC to redownload all the components it needs play videos and so on.

Another thought; Are you running Theatre View using Direct3D or OpenGL?

The setting is at "Options > Theatre View > Advanced > Use OpenGL Theatre View". If ticked, untick it and try again. If unticked, tick it and try again. I use OpenGL, and it is the future for Theatre View anyway, so worth a try.

i understand about windows updates, 10 is a struggle. Video drivers are updated, PC has been restarted.

I have backed up, uninstalled, cleaned registry, restarted, reinstalled, restored library.
Still hangs.

Just tried OpenGL and same results.

Going to an older version fixes it.

which one?

I suggest you post your hardware & drivers versions too

did you restart MC when changing the OpenGL option btw? i don't recall if it tells you to but you have to restart MC for it to take effect

Have you run a log of the issue and had a look to see what may be the problem?

Or post a copy of the log if you like. Someone may be able to work out what the issue is from that, if you can't. Plus the log includes a System Info file with most driver versions etc., answering Matt's question. Your Windows build and external hardware isn't included though, so maybe add those.

I might suspect a firewall preventing the download of MC components as well. Sometimes just one specific version of MC can trigger a specific Firewall or Antivirus application, blocking the components download. You could try disabling all security applications for a short while to see if the problem goes away. What security software are you using?

Using Windows Defender. Have excluded JRiver.
