Can't customize themes with Nuc Id?
« on: March 06, 2018, 10:52:19 pm »

I've read all the wikis and posts I could find about adding/changing my own themes (I want to remove the Van Gogh pictures and add my own).  I was all set to try it out but I see no way to do it.  When I try to "browse themes" in theater view it doesn't go anywhere.  It says to find the themes folder, change the name, add your own photos, etc...  None of those things can be done on the Nuc (or at least I don't see how to do it).
Is this the case?  If so, that is some functionality I would like back, if possible.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Caveat: I don't have a NUC, and I've forgotten more about Unix/Linux than I remember!

Maybe the "Browse Themes folder" functionality doesn't work, but the rest of it does. Are you able to click on the current (Default) theme and select "No Theme"?

If so, you can probably manually put a theme in place and use it.

On Windows the themes folder is in "C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 23\Skins\Theater View\Themes". If you can get to the equivalent folder on the NUC using the File Manager it must include, you may be able to add a new subdirectory for the theme you want to set up. You just need to have a subdirectory full of the images you want to use for the theme, and that subdirectory will appear as one of the themes you can select in the MC Options.

For example, I have two custom themes in "\Themes\Puppies" and "\Themes\Dakar", alongside the standard "\Themes\Default" folder/theme.

Give that a try.

On Linux skins are in the hidden ~/.jriver/ directory, e.g. ~/.jriver/Media Center 23/Skins/Standard View or ~/.jriver/Media Center 23/Skins/Theater View

Thanks for the replies:)
How do I copy a jpeg file into that folder, if I can find it?
I guess I need help finding the file manager too.
Thanks

I'm playing with it now and have checked show hidden files and see no folder location starting with ~.
I'm looking under file system while in options> file location> images.

You won't see a ~ in the file browser. The ~ just means the rest of the file path is relative to the home directory. If you click on the home button in the file browser, you should see a .jriver folder. Also, if you have a newer Id, the Media Center folder will be "Media Center Id."

We don't support customization of the Id.  If you want to do your own configuration at the file level, you'd need to use a standard version of MC, and not the Id.
