Author Topic: Noise over quiet music Geekout 1000 DSD playback on Mac High Sierra  (Read 1139 times)

I have a problem on High Sierra where playback of DSD on my Geekout 1000 produces very quiet music and a loud noise over the top of the music. I have looked everywhere for a solution.

Here are things I know. This was working on High Sierra before I installed one of the updates to the OS. I did replace the IOAudioFamily.kext with one that previously worked with the same results. The DAC is plugged into the same USB port that it was when it was working.

If I run Windows 10 X64 under Parallels Desktop and attach the Geekout to the VM and run MediaCenter in the VM it works fine.

One of the differences is that when run under Windows the DAC's blue light indicating DSD mode lights up. Under Mac control using MediaCenter the DSD indicator does not light up blue.

I would love to be able to play under Mac without having to start up Windows 10 under Parallels. Any help will be appreciated.

Open the Audio MIDI Setup app, and set the Geek Out 1000 to the highest bit-depth and sample rate available. This is required for some DACs to get DSD working. You probably already have done so, but make sure you have DSD bitstreaming enabled, just in case. Finally, make sure both the system volume and MC's volume are set to 100%.

Thank you for the suggestions. I did try all of those suggestions with the same result. It is maddening since it used to work fine on the Mac under High Sierra for Audirvanna and Mediacenter now it behaves the same for both.

I have attached a screenshot showing all of those settings.
