I'm seeing about 9-10MB/sec to move ~2800 songs (~55GB) to the SD card.  I have it connected to a USB 3 port on the motherboard with USB-A to USB-C cable.

I expected higher speeds, and can't find any protocol which has a 9-10 MB cap, so I'm not sure what the bottleneck is.

What speeds do others see, and how might I increase my speeds from here?

A Class 10 SD card guarantees you a write speed of 10MB/sec, so its probably fine. If it would be significantly faster, they would've classified it using one of the faster profiles.

I bought a good one, Samsung 128GB 100MB/s (U3) MicroSD EVO Select Memory Card with Adapter (MB-ME128GA/AM)

Up to 100MB/s & 90MB/s read & write speeds respectively; Class 10 UHS 3

So I was expecting more.  Wonder if it's my phone hardware, or something else?

The key words there are "up to." As in, optimal conditions when everything goes perfect...not the normal use cases. I have a couple of the smaller Selects and they're nothing special. They're supposedly equivalent to the Plus versions, but that's not true.

You can copy a single huge file to the drive and then copy it back to get an idea of its sequential performance. Even better, use some benchmarking software like CrystalDiskMark. Those methods will take MC out of the equation. Try a different card reader to take the phone out of the equation.

Also, beware there are lots of fakes out there for Samsung cards.

Oh, I understand "up to", but this is 12% of that, so I feel like it's not the card.  Maybe it is a fake, bought from Amazon.  I'm downloading CrystalDiskInfo 7.6.0 now.  I'll run it when the handheld sync finishes.

an Class U3 card has a minimum guaranteed write speed of 30MB/s. However maybe the phone is limiting, who knows.
