Configuring JRiver for a DSD only DAC
« on: March 23, 2018, 10:29:25 pm »

I have a Lampizator Euforia DSD DAC. This DAC only accepts DSD input (no PCM) up to 2xDSD (128).

I can get music to play through the DAC when using JRiver, but it stutters and sounds poor. I have the following settings:
DSP Studio Output Encoding -> 2xDSD in Native Format
Options -> Bitstreaming Yes (DSD)

I also tried DSP Studio -> 2xDSD in DoP Format with the same stuttering results.

The CPU isn't taxed at all. It's only at 20% and JRiver is at 10%.

Audio Path shows:
Input: 44.1 kHz 2ch from source format mp3
Changes: Encode as 2xDSD
Output: DSD 5.6 mHz 1 bit 2ch using ASIO (not using enough bits to output the input directly)

I don't have any problems with Roon. But, I'd rather use JRiver as I prefer the folder and theater views.

Perhaps a buffering problem. I use an exasound e38 and stereo and mch dsd give no problems. On the exasound website is a jriver set up. Perhaps you can use it for your Lampi dac as well.

That was it. A buffering problem. I followed the instructions for the exasound DAC and increased the buffer to 500ms and all was good. Thanks.
