The growth was in the top line.  What matters to streaming services is the bottom line.  Spotify is growing but losing steadily more money.  You can't make it up on volume.

I sometimes wonder why they keep dumping money into streaming services if they continue to lose money.

As a Side note, I just got this e-mail from Amazon.

I don't really understand what this is meant to mean. If you're saying they only care about the bottom line then clearly this isn't true, if they've been constantly losing money like you say.

They aim at growth in sales even if the business is very unprofitable.  They are betting that they can sell the business, via an IPO or an acquisition.  It is a very risky strategy.  The road to success is littered with dead bodies.

From our point of view, it's risky to invest in supporting services, when it's likely that fewer than half of them will be around in a few years.  I'd rather build on solid ground.

I'm going to move some of these posts to a new thread.  I'd like to keep a clean log of the events, without too much discussion.

From your point of view, I understand the decision not to support music streaming services directly and I'm not fussed about it. As far as I understand the choice is mostly taken out of your hands anyway in most instances as there are no API's to support them (streaming services) even if you wanted to. I'm just making the point and surely it's plain to see that physical media and downloads are in steep decline on a way to virtual oblivion and streaming is on a steep rise to conquering. I wonder how this will influence JRiver's (and other software players) future in 2, 5, 10, 60 (presumably when I'm dead) years from now. ?  :-\

is there a source your quoting from?

I prefer downloads, that way I know I have the song, and it can never be taken from me also I can play it whenever I feel like.

No direct source, but physical and downloads have been in decline for a few years now. Streaming has been soaring.
