Meta data scraping
« on: April 02, 2018, 08:21:25 am »

Is there the ability to scrape from relevant sites, additional searchable info re contributing musicians etc?  Eg, search entire library for songs or albums or bands that xxx has contributed to or is associated with?

Would be useful to find singer, guitarist etc that is not associated by band or album title.

I think you could use amg.pl (Allmusic) or discogs.pl (Discogs, obviously) via MCUtils. I use amg.pl all the time, and if you set up to grab the "Credits," you can likely get what you're looking for, assuming an individual album's credits list contributing musicians, which you could then search via whatever field you send amg's credits to.

MCUtils has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get it set up, it's great for this kind of thing.

rateyourmusic.com is amazing, and their new project, sonemic.com, is supposed to have an API to play nice with scrapers etc.
