Where are the new features?
« on: April 17, 2018, 04:38:56 am »

After some problems (the same as in the previous version, by the way)
MediaCenter 24 seems to work now without a problem.
It looks and feels like MediaCenter 23 and with the same faults:
problems with special characters (Umlaute), no real MAC feeling and look
(the skins - save the slightly MACish Modern Cards - all have a WINDOWS look),
some of the daily used keyboard actions don't work with MediaCenter - but all
other programs that I have on my Mac.

And where are the really new features for the Mac version?

Modern software development works on rolling releases.
You don't get one big update and wait a year or two for the next one, there are constant releases with fixes and features added over time.
Media Center tends to have 100 or so updates over the course of a year.

That's the reason why I am still paying for new versions.
I understand and am grateful for the many updates that
a version receives though these are bugfixes and should
be normal with every published and commercially sold
software (and that is natural for all free software, too)
but a new version, at least fo me, should offer something
really new. May be that I demand too much from a product
that is the best on the market (even if some important features
of the WINDOWS version are not implanted in the Mac version)
and should accept things as they are.

Many of the features are for windows only,
"Full Screen Browser Mode (F11) -- useful for YouTube" doesn't work on my Mac. F11 is the shortcut to decrease the volume.
I think there is not much really NEW for the MAC,

Many are not, but if you insist, then ok.

You might read the release notes.  All changes are there.

I read the news and did read them before being the 24 version.
So I knew which NEW things were coming.
As I already wrote: it's a great software, it's important to support your work
and I am glad to pay my contribution to keep it alive.

But:

1) Choice of youtube.com or youtube.com/tv  (Options > Services)
so important?

3) Full Screen Browser Mode (F11) -- useful for YouTube
doesn't work on my MAC

3) Sidecar support for audio, data, images, as well as video files.
?

4) Themes for Panel.  Light Theme available now.
5) New Default Skin:  Modern Cards: Grey Edition
both not more than slight facelifting

6) Wake on LAN extended (From Library Server Clients and To DLNA renderers)
!

7) Streaming is now a top level category, like Audio or Video.  It replaces the old "Connected Media".  Streaming has a totally new interface.
like 4 & 5

8) Radio Paradise -- Lossless FLAC streaming from a listener supported station.
funny but not for me

9) Handheld Sync Support in MC 64 bit
?

10) Blu-ray Menus
11) UHD Blu-ray Title Playback
12) ZoneSync 2 -- play audio in multiple zones, at the same time.
13) Zone Groups -- similar to Playlist Groups
14) TV Post-Process Command -- Executes a Command after recording

Are 10 - 14 really MAC features and frankly: do these NEW features really
justify a new payed version?
