Initial impressions MC24
« on: April 18, 2018, 10:47:36 am »

Have been using Win MCE many years and been happy but now when MS ditched MCE I wanted to try something else.
Been trying Mediaportal and Kodi earlier many times but always something that made me go back to Win MCE.
Have a Intel Nuc connected to a 50" TV and Hegel H80 amp with 2 Klipsch RP 160M and a SVS SB1000 sub.
In between the NUC and amp I have one Singxer F1 USB to SPDIF converter.
Also have a TV capture unit connected for my TV channels.
This is my all media machine... TV,movies, music, videos, streaming, surf and so on.

Not very skilled at computers but much better than the average 50+ year old.

Been using MC21 for long just for music but a couple of day´s ago I upgraded to MC24 and hoped for a worthy replacement for the old but trustworthy Win MCE.
Have to say I am pretty impressed how nice MC24 works even if it is is a very early build.
TV and EPG works really good, music sound even better.
All my movies is picked up beautifully with covers and info.
All my music albums on the server is also picked up with covers really nice.
I think this is a keeper!

A couple of things that I have problems with, minor ones:

Radio Paradise works and sounds good but take very long time to load.
Using WDM driver, seems to kick in but cant adjust volume and mute with the controller.
Volume meter moves and pushing mute the mute indicator shows up but nothing changes.
Playing music or movies, sound sometimes cracks the first 10-20 seconds of playing and sometimes it takes many seconds before the sound kicks in.

I am pretty sure this will be fixed later.

Wish for:
Some way to duplicate Win MCE´s extender function.
I have another TV in my bedroom with a XBOX 360 connected on network and with Win MCE it´s a breezer to get TV, music or movies there.

Good work so far crew at JRiver!

You can probably use the Xbox as a DLNA Renderer, so that MC can play to it.  You have a lot of choices for remote control.  The wiki has a topic on Remotes.

Thanks for your comments.

Using the Xbox as a renderer works well with videos and music however I can´t see a way to make it work with TV.
Would be great to get that so I can get rid of Win MCE.
