24.0.16 unresponsive
« on: April 19, 2018, 01:04:21 pm »

Cannot stop playback. Cannot delete from library. Import function imports files not in folder selected. Import does not allow selection of more than 1 folder at a time. Cannot quit, have to force quit.

2012 MBP 10.11.6, Output device PS Audio Directstream DAC

Please advise.

Maybe there is an error message box behind the player?

Import function imports files not in folder selected.
You need to set up auto import under Tools > Import.

Sorry about the trouble.  Sounds like your system is experiencing very high CPU usage which makes it appear unresponsive.
We've had some similar problem reports of freezes or crashes that are related to the updated Apple Xcode tools we use to make builds.  We fixed some in build 24.0.16 and have a few more fixes that will be in 24.0.17 due out later today or tomorrow.  That build will also have a fix for some NVidia graphics driver problems that have been reported.

Have you tried turning off auto-import temporarily?  Also, it might be helpful to us if you could enable logging and send us a log file after one of these issues (Help / Logging / Output to a log file).

Whoa! Yes it is nailing my CPU (185%).. I have moved over to a 2015 MBP Maxed out, running 10.11.6 - with AMD graphics.
I am only importing 3 DSD albums from Acoustic sounds to start with. I have analysis enabled.

Thanks for some helpful information! I will look for the update.
I have enabled logging where is the log file stored?

Best,

Ken

The wiki has a topic on Logging.

Please try the build posted last night (24.0.18) and let us know if it fixed your issues.  Thanks!

Thank-you, V24.0.18 is acting much better, still hitting my processors to 132% - I can run very processor intensive soft synths 10 at once and only use 25%, but importing with analysis is taxing a very powerful machine. The good news is the program hasn't locked up!
It would be nice to be able to select a range of folders and not have to do one folder at a time.
I will continue to build my library. Sound quality with my PS Audio Directstream DAC is really excellent.
I appreciate the help!

Would you try turning the processing to one file at a time and see how the speed compares? I'm wondering if there is an issue with the multicore file analysis.
