SmartList question
« on: June 11, 2003, 05:36:48 pm »

Is it possible to have a smartlist that, when complete, gets re-queued?  For example, I'd like a smartlist that picks 5 unique songs based on some logic and then, when those 5 songs are complete, it gets run again to pick 5 new songs (which are all unique, but could duplicate the original 5 songs).  This example is rather contrived, but gets the point of what I want to do across.

Any thoughts or tricks?

Thanks

Yes, you can create a smartlist the will "pick 5 unique songs based on some logic".

I'm not sure what you mean by these two statements, though:

I'm gonna take a guess at what he's tryin' to say ;D

1. Create a smartlist containing 5 random songs
2. play the list
3. when the 5 songs are played the smartlist sends 5 new songs to play

BUT I could be wong ;D
Just tryin' to get outta being a TENDERFOOT ;)

min221bbs is correct - I already have a smartlist that does what I want it to do, but selecting "continuous play" in MC just replays the existing songs when the list is done and not having that selected just stops when those songs are done.

Here is a better example - I have 5 songs in my library, I have a smartlist that contains all the songs, sorted randomly.  What I want is those 5 songs played in a random order continuously - what I can get is a random order of those songs and then have them played, in that order, continuously.

?

Thanks

So you want whatever tracks are in "Playing Now" to play and then automatically reshuffle and start playing again? I'm pretty sure that can't be done, very easily anyway. It might be possible to do something kind of like what you want by using a smartlist that points to several "sub" or secondary smartlists that each use different criteria for sorting. Maybe some other smartlist experts will have an idea.

That's just one example - another might be to have a smartlist that picks a couple of random songs by a single, random, artist.  I'd like to be able to have this constantly requeue a new set of songs each time the first ones are complete.

I've tried creating a smartlist that is the logic I want and then having a second smartlist that includes the first one twice, but that doesn't seem to do anything useful(well, it just results in the first smartlist being included once).

I'm pretty sure that there's no way to get the list to automatically requeue/reshuffle without input from the user.

That's because in the current 9.0 version, you can't have duplicates of the same track in a playlist/smartlist unless you have actual multiple copies of the file on your hardrive.
