MC24 crashes everytime PC wakes from sleep
« on: May 01, 2018, 05:56:43 am »

Hi everyone, first post here. Some background info, I ran the trial period of MC23 and seemed to work ok except that every time the PC woke from sleep I would see that MC had encountered an exception and had to close. I followed some advice on the forum to untick the Auto-import in background but this didn't seem to fix it.
So I upgraded to MC24 when it came out and it still crashes. I have enabled the logging function and have a .zip file with log details. Where do I attach it or make it available for analysis?

I like the program, i mainly use it in theater mode with my e-home IR remote for watching and recording live TV, but its a pain when it crashes because i have to get the mouse and keyboard out from under the TV cabinet and click close and double click the JRiver MC icon manually.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

P.S.
When is Netflix going to be in the Services&Plug-ins list? :)

Mysterious crashes are often caused by antivirus software.  See the link in my signature called "Weird Problems".  Video drivers also can cause crashes.

What OS are you using?

After a crash, take a look at the Previous log and look near the bottom of the file.

Is it actually crashing or is it freezing.  You said you're clicking Close.

Thanks for your reply Jim, i'm sure you get lots of these same questions. the dialog box that appears is a windows dialog box with a messages like this program must close or something, when it crashes next I'll take a screen shot. but I'm not closing the program using the 'X' in the top right, its a close button.

I'm running Windows10 Pro 64bit, running windows defender standard supplied with Win10.

I moved this to the TV board because it may be related to another problem reported here.  It may be the download of the EPG data that is causing the problem.  Yaobing will probably reply soon.  If he agrees, I'll combine the threads.

I believe the problem could be reproduced by updating the EPG manually.  You could try that.

Windows Defender can cause problems.   There is a thread on it on the forum.  MC23 or MC24 board.

Hi Yaobing, I had a quick read of the post you linked, did seem to suggest anything to try but looks related maybe. I have uninstalled MC23 completely.

how do you manually update EPG? My guide is also set to "over the air"

Note: Didn't crash this morning when I woke PC up, what does that mean?

Crashing sometimes happens and sometimes does not.  So there is not much to be concluded.  Your log looks very much like the one provided in the other thread.  I am looking into whether there is anything to improve in terms of cleaning up after EPG scanning has finished.

See pic of crash dialog box:

When you open MC24 again after crash you get the incomplete shutdown detected message.

Would be awesome if there was a fix for it. Question: When its crashed with dialog box on the screen, will it still record live TV for schedualed shows?

I posted a possible fix in the thread that I linked above.  Please try it.

...Question: When its crashed with dialog box on the screen, will it still record live TV for schedualed shows?

My experience is, the recordings that are happening when the crash occurs will continue to write to the hard drive and those tuners will be locked in use. Also any future recordings will not fire. Best to restart the PC and reboot the locked tuners asap. You can also try my Auto Restart MC Solution - https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114601.msg793391.html
