Author Topic: Unable to uninstall previous versions of Media Center on Windows 10  (Read 1718 times)

I recently installed Media Center 24 on my desktop computer running Windows 10.  I discovered that I still have MC18 & MC23 installed on this computer.  I wouldn't mind having them, I have plenty of disk space, but the problem is that they continue to update & launch themselves, which is annoying.  When I try to use Windows Settings to uninstall them, nothing happens.  How do I uninstall previous versions or at least make them lie dormant?

I'd try this...

0) Make a library backup in MC24, just in case anything goes wrong. If you still use MC18/MC23, you could open those too and make backups of their libraries - if you just use MC24 (and not MC18/23, you don't need to).

1) Install the last build of MC18 from here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,82548.0.html

2) After installing MC18, go into Windows' Add/Remove Programs (or Windows Settings on 10) and uninstall MC18 from there. You'll probably want to make sure the boxes for removing MC's registry entries and MC's library files options are checked.

3) Once it's removed, repeat the process with MC23 using the last build of MC23 here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,115105.0.html

4) After installing MC23, again go into Windows' Add/Remove Programs (or Windows Settings on 10) and uninstall MC23 from there. Again, you'll probably want to make sure the boxes for removing MC's registry entries and MC's library files options are checked.

5) Reinstall MC24, you can find the latest build here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,115860.0.html

Hopefully that does it. :)

  • Where did I put my teeth?

Turn off auto update under Help > Update Channels.

Uninstall works fine for MC23.  I don't know what that problem could be.

Uninstall for MC18 may require installing the last build of MC18 first, then uninstalling.  You can find it here:

It's only MC18 that requires installing again.  There was a bad build that got out.
