Audio won't play
« on: May 28, 2018, 10:02:54 pm »

64 bit:  Won't play audio. Won't play video ("Waiting..." endlessly with black screen).
Troubleshooting steps have included changing audio options between ASIO and WASAPI, multiple computer reboots, and verifying that other programs will play audio and video.

What are you playing to?  Try another device.

What files are you playing?  Try another file type.

HDMI connection?  Try another.

Playing to Marantz AVR SR-7010 to LG 65E6 OLED display.
Playing via HDMI.

Additional troubleshooting:  Updated to latest nvidia video and audio drivers for GeForce 960. Other programs still work; MC still does not.

Test with ordinary FLAC or MP3.

Try something other than HDMI, just as a test.  If the problem is only with HDMI, then there may still be a video driver problem.

Power everything off and back on.

HDMI has an exclusive mode.  Make sure another program doesn't have it set.

Multiple power cycles later, MC and my Marantz AVR + LG OLED are playing well together again. WASAPI exclusive with HDMI bitstreaming within MC, as before.

Origin of bizarre issue unknown; however, I did add another component to my Audio/Video system between proper MC behavior and anomalous behavior... I got an OPPO UDP-203. It uses a different HDMI input on the Marantz AVR, of course. Although it makes absolutely no sense to me, it appears possible that the Marantz does not "like" shifting from the HTPC (running MC) to the OPPO, or vice-versa, unless I give it a power cycle (even though playback was stopped on either device). It will change inputs as directed, but with the quirky audio behavior.

If these observations hold consistently, then I will have a simple work-around:  power cycle the Marantz after switching among its HDMI inputs.
