Prevent stop when closing GUI with Media Server running
« on: May 29, 2018, 10:40:00 am »

I have several audio zones on my main PC.  I have Media Server running but when I do something in the MC GUI and close it, audio playback in other zones stops.  Is there any way to prevent this?  Thanks.

Could you just minimize instead of close?

This has been requested (and discussed) more than once. I too would like to have this functionality implemented.

Surely Media server is just designed to expose your defined DLNA servers to possible dlna clients on the network allowing them to pull files for playing. Zones push media to a dlna client so surely the main MC program must be open to do this. Or maybe I'm confused .com

Yes, I am trying to train myself to do this but I often forget and get complaints from another room about the music stopping :).  Does closing the GUI free up any more resources compared to minimizing?

You can use Gizmo, etc. to play music to zones (multiple sound cards) without the GUI open.

Jim is saying that the playback on the clients might be stopping when you close instead of playback on the server.  I didn't think so, but could you confirm?

I would expect playback on clients to continue regardless of the state of the server.

Closing the server will stop playback on the server's zones.

Thanks.

cncb,
Can you describe who is controlling playback and how?  Remotes?

No clients are involved.  It is multiple audio outputs (as zones) on the server that are being controlled by Gizmo-like remotes in different rooms.  These zones are stopping even when they are not the active/current zone in the GUI.

Thanks for the update cncb. I have just tried this playing to two zones on my network and then closing the GUI - the playlists are still being played in both zones. Windows 10 64 bit mc 24.0.27 64 bit.

EDIT: a couple of hours later and about 20 openings and closures of the GUI with bits of work being done in the GUI and both zones are playing their little hearts out.

+1

My opinion is that a server should not be interrupted when the GUI is closed.
