MC24 stable version
« on: June 06, 2018, 06:16:14 am »

I got an e-mail that I should download MC24, because it's stable now. Already have a Master license for MC24. So, where is the stable Linux version of MC24?

Don't think there's anything in the stable repo yet (the stable repo actually doesn't exist yet). That said, the build in the latest repo (24.0.28) has been pretty stable for me, but your mileage may vary depending on what Linux distro you're using. IMO though, adding a MC24 for Linux build to the stable repo should wait until after the internal browser stuff fully lands (and is pretty stable without issues, like it not working on Ubuntu 18.04). Mainly I think this because of the registration changes that occurred in both 24.0.26 and 24.0.32 beta (which require re-entering the license key again) so to avoid having to re-enter the license key twice in a row.

It's worth pointing out that MC for Linux and Mac are different than MC for Windows (the main JRiver platform, IMO), which is more-or-less pretty stable now. MC24 for Mac (24.0.25) is actually pretty stable too, in my own experience.

So, we (OSX and Linux users) can ignore the JRiver emails, because they are all based upon information concerning Windows versions?  ?

I enabled the stable repo for MC24. It's on 24.0.19 which was the last build before the browser code was added.
As A.D. says, the browser code is still changing so a stable build with that included will be a bit longer.
Also,  the license will need to be re-entered for Intel distros when you move from 24.0.19 to any newer build.
The stable channel won't get another update until the browser code is finalized.

Is there already a new stable version? If not, can we expect a new stable version in the near future?

24.0.55 and 24.0.61 have both been pretty stable in my own testing. For example I've got it running 24/7 on the Raspberry Pi and it hasn't crashed once yet or anything like that. I realize they're likely not in the stable repo yet (which begs the questions/concerns here) but they *could* be added to the stable repo. At the very least 24.0.55 could be a stable repo contender, IMO.

Thanks, that's the kind of feedback we need to push a build to stable.
