Loss of Audio Control
« on: June 06, 2018, 01:10:24 pm »

This isn't a new problem for me, but it's annoying.  Maybe there's an elusive simple solution...

Whenever I use Media Center on my Mac, I lost control of audio after I close Media center.  My only solution so far has been to reboot.  I hope there's a simpler way because that's a deal breaker otherwise.

Thanks....and yes, I searched for an answer and didn't see anything in the FAQ or elsewhere.

You might need to turn off exclusive access in the Core Audio settings. Open the Tools menu and selecting Options. Once the Options window is open, select Audio on the left side and click on ...Device settings... and once that's open, uncheck this box highlighted with the red box and press OK.

Keep in mind, you'll hear system sounds and whatever else while using MC due to the lack of exclusive access (which is desirable if doing bit-perfect output). Now if the problem persists after disabling exclusive access, you could try unchecking integer mode too and see if there's any difference.

Thanks!  Yes, it is annoying if you're listening to music and you get the 'ding' for a text msg, but it's arguably more annoying to have to reboot the computer.  I'll give it a try...... :)
