I recently purchased an opera cd set on Deutsche Grammophone which came with a separate high fidelity pure audio Blu-ray Disc. I assume that the audio file on this disc which I understand is in Dolby True HD, will be better than the same file mastered to the CDs. How can I rip this disc so I can import it into my JRiver library?

you can rip it as any other blu-ray and treat it as video.  but what i do is:

use makemkv to rip to folder structure

use dvdae to extract the audio from the folder structure rip into a flac container (no re-encoding is done).   typically bluray audio have pcm, dts-hd, and/or dolby-truehd.   dvdae will show you details re: each audio track and also download metadata for you

also -how does dlna in MC present particles to non MC clients? would the client see the individual tracks or nothing at all?

  With stock views it shows up under Video.  I've made a Music Video view that just has ... Music Videos.  If you want you can select all the particles and use MC's Convert Audio (check "Convert video to Audio") and it will also copy over all the meta data etc for a pure Audio Only Track.

Edit - Forgot to mention to select what Audio Track to convert (if there is more than one), it will be the last one you have played the video particle.  The info for this is stored in the "Playback Field" and you can manually change it or copy it to the other particles.

All clients see and can play the individual tracks just like with any other MC Library Entry.

Thank you The Shoe and jmone for your replies. I will give the Makemkv software a try as I would also like to rip my collection of blu-ray movies. I will be interested to compare the 24 bit/ 96 khz audio file with the Cds. Thank you again for the help.

... or, another option is to take the mkv from MakeMKV. Play the the mkv file in MC. While the vid is playing back, right click [context menu] and select Streams.

Pick the audio stream you're interested in, e.g. PCM or whatever sends your ears to Audio Nirvana. This then puts that audio stream into MC's focus. Then use MC's onboard Convert Format to convert audio only.
