9.1 is very unstable on my system. Crashes after a few seconds when trying to play MP3's, sometimes when just navigating the menus. Had occaisional problems with 9 so probably something my end

Besides

here are two other problems

1. Microsoft Windows 98 SE
2. Intel Pentium II 300

this out dated ASPI also does not help

Since your computer is really old, i am sure it is using a really old video card and driver. if there is an update to the video driver this may help. I doubt there will be any drivers for that video card.
