madVR's exclusive mode and Windows 10
« on: July 07, 2018, 04:46:25 am »

I remember reading somewhere that madVR's fullscreen exclusive mode doesn't perform well with Windows 10. Is there any truth to this and if so, why?

I am asking because W10 is riddled with annoying notifications and manually turning them off/on is not fun. Exclusive mode helps a lot.

I haven't used Exclusive Mode since switching to Windows 10.
You could turn on Focus Assist?

Looks like the new Windows 10 May 2019 Update (1903, or 19H1) has an interesting improvement for Focus Assist. It will block notifications from any full-screen program, not just games. So perhaps, exclusive mode will not be required any more.

Isn't exclusive mode required on some versions of windows for 10 bit color depth?  I think this was at least the case for win 7

It helps using AMD integrated Ryzen Graphics to get HDR without the screen darkening bug that some users get.

EDIT: Latest drivers fixed the bug and no need to have Exclusive Mode any more in the above scenario.

i use d3d11 windowed (havent use exclusive for ages ... i used exclusive before for 3d ... not necessary anymore)

i am on nvidia though ... switching to d3d11 windowed mode is more smooth for me now ... 3d works on it now ... so us hdr ... and it can outputs at 12 bit (though madVR renders at 10 bit ... so not sure if that 12 bit is sny useful except for placebo effect lol)
