Recording in Media Centre 24?
« on: August 09, 2018, 09:59:38 pm »

Hi - I'm new to Win10 and to MediaCentre (installed it tonight) - can someone help?

I've searched through the program and searched through the forum and it seems that it is not possible to record audio from a Line In or System Mixer source. Is that true? There don't seem to be any plugins for this either. Maybe I'm searching for the wrong terms - I was a long time Musicmatch Jukebox user.

Any suggestions - or even a confirmation that I've got this correct - would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

SWIV3D, PSCHELBERT -

Thanks for the quick replies, that was good of you. I found Audacity last night but didn't know Soundforge, Audition, Nuendo so I will check them out.  MP3 looks a little awkward with Audacity so I appreciate the other references.  Doug

audacity is great and free. It can record in flac etc.

It has no ASIO drivers for prof audio interfaces (unless you compile it yourself in). Otherwise almost all is possible as with the prof versions.

here a DAW software overview:

soundforge what I use (I have an old version, was formerly Sony, before soundforge)

I use audacity, it is a very versatile program  - once you get used to it.

Thanks again pshelbert and swiv3d. Those links were quite a learning experience. A whole world out there. And I have been playing around with Audacity. I found a few other solutions also, if they pan out I'll post them in the coming weeks.

Interestingly I've also found posts from people describing how to run Musicmatch Jukebox under Windows 10! It was certainly good to me for a very long time and so easy and versatile to use.  But my version is now old enough to graduate high school, marry and have kids, I think I will not try to keep it going under a modern operating system.

Thanks again to both of you.

Just to give you a possible alternative:

Quote
Deprecated Function
Line-in recording has been removed from Media Center as of v18, because the external library used was not cross-platform.

If you have an ASIO device, you can replicate this functionality by:

Configure Tools > Options > Audio > Audio Device to use Disk Writer as the output device.
Use File > Open Live to input from your ASIO device's line-in.
You may also be able to use the same type of system with the WDM Driver and Disk Writer, if you can play the Line-In feed with another application.
