Ipod Icon Not Recognized in MC9
« on: June 01, 2003, 03:15:05 pm »

Hi There:  I'm hoping I can get some help here.  MC( has been an improvement over MMJB and Ephpod, etc., but even though iPod is recognized with it's letter (F) in My Computer, it takes me about a half hour to an hour of starting and re-starting to become recognized by MC9.
Disabling the Norton doesn't help, and there's nothing else on.  When I finally get it connected, it's a breeze, except for one thing:  I recently restored because I downloaded songs (whole CDs burned here) to the iPod, and even though it went through the whole proccess, the songs were not on the iPod, but that's a side matter.  I need to be able to plug in and BE SEEN IMMEDIATELY.  I should note, that I have taken this Q to Adam at iPodlounge, and we couldn't come up with a  solution.  Thanks, Christopher

Christopher,

Is there anything special that you do when it finally is recognized?  What is the volume label on the iPod? If not "IPOD" try naming it that and see if it helps.

Yeah, Steve for the month of trying out MC9 I have wracked my brain to figure that out!  No, I haven't come up with anything in common each time.  I did name it iPod (the letter F, is that what you mean?).  It shows up in the drop down tree (always when plugged in) in MC9, and shows up in the safely disconnect.  I have the top Gateway laptop, and have installed the adaptec firewire bus, but it's the Gateway firewire that ends up working.
One thing is, if I have done something different, like use the burner or listen to music, and the F is not at the target, it takes forever to get it back there.

Also of note, I've had my iPod since Christmas, and having MC9 is the first time I am able to see the F being recognized, because of course with other programs, you can't actually see the connection.  This way my frustration is at least spelled out.

Thanks Christopher

Are you saying that you have similar problems when running other applications? If so, this would definitely point to a hardware problem. Another possibility is that it is a MusicMatch issue. I had a somewhat similar experience when I had MusicMatch installed. The reason was that MusicMatch insidiously kept trying to take control of my Ipod. If you have MusicMatch installed, try renaming the MusicMatch folder to something else and that will resolve the problem (assuming that this is your problem).

To Steve G:

I had uninstalled the MMJB from my system, and true to Adam's words, it had wormed it's way into the system! There were 9(!) files left which I got rid of.

My iPod has been sent back, for an unrelated problem (the second time getting a new one) but I wanted to work some of this out.  Thanks guys, I can't wait to hear the plan the SYSTEMS guy has!!!

My partner's brand-new iPod came today.  A new generation 10G, it arrived fully charged, and was quickly recognized by MC9 on letter (E), rather than the letter (F) that mine comes in on.  I quickly d/l a playlist of about 600 songs, and they appeared in the iPod's directory in MC9.  When I "safely disconected" a (!) with a file folder appeared in the window.  I then restored (iPod was recognized there quickly) and the quick recharge bar that appears on my older 20G iPod didn't appear, but the (!) remained.  It's now recharging with the words "disk Mode" along the top, and no recharge icon going across the front.  Are we OK, and recharging?  And what about the letter E rather than F?
I await answers also on the previous posts concerning my 20G iPod.  Thanks, CMB

Christopher,

In regards to the different drive letter being assigned, this is a normal way for your PC to treat seaparte removable drive devices.

Probably.

Could you restate the question?
