Where do the .jmd files "live" on linux?
« on: September 24, 2018, 07:10:57 pm »

Hi -

I just moved to Linux from Windows and I've had some issues getting my library imported. The only way it would recognize my files and their path was if I added them all anew.* I lost all my play stats and playlists. Playlists I can laboriously move over by dumping them from the old library in Windows, but the stats are gone. I should be able to move in the `field (number plays).jmd` file and so on, but I don't know where they are in Linux and I can't find them. Help? Thanks!

Micah

* The Move / Rename Files dialog is incomplete in some ways: it will allow you to swap the backslashes to slashes, but it doesn't allow you to change a path starting with a drive letter to a *nix path (i.e. my files used to be X:\Music\[Artist]\[Album] but I can't change the X:\Music aspect because Linux MC doesn't recognize that a backslash in a path would be valid for not-Linux).

Sorry to say this but JRiver makes it almost impossible to transfer playlists from Linux to Window and vice versa.  You need to swap all / or \ and edit the folder names too; since files will be located at different folders.  It may take you less time to redo the playlists rather than editing the library file.

It isn't JRiver that does it.

There's major differences in paths between Windows, Mac and Linux. Going from Mac to Linux or vice versa is a little easier, but going from Windows to Mac/Linux or vice versa can be tricky.

Hmm. Okay, I can live with losing my playlists and recreating them; that's no big deal. All my play count information, though...phew. I need that. Any ideas?

Thanks.

They should be stored in the file unless you had that turned off.

Hmm...apparently? They didn't import with that info. I can reconstruct that, though, if I load up my old library in Windows, Write Data to Tags, and then Load Data from Tags in the new library on Linux, yeah?

I just got my library transferred from Windows to Linux. Everything works: all files, play counts, and playlists, etc.  I posted notes on this board, hopefully same steps work for you as well.
