Panels like Import and Options, when active, make the app useless if the app's main window covers the panel.

1. Run MC
2. Tools > Options
3. Move the Options panel so it's completely surrounded by main app window (this is normally the case, at least it is when I open an Options or Import panel).
4. Click the main app window

At this point the Options panel is not visible; it's entirely hidden by the main window. However the main window does not respond to any mouse clicks, not even close/miniaturize. The main window, and hence the app, are not usable. There is no way to make the Options panel visible. The menu does respond to mouse clicks, so you can exit the app (which AFAICT is the only way to exit this unusable state).

MC 24.0.53. iMac, macOS 10.13.6.

CMD+> or CMD+< should bring up the options window if MC is the app in focus (in the macOS top bar).

The menu says it's supposed to be CMD+O to bring up the options panel. That works if the option panel isn't open. But in the hung state I describe it does nothing. I think keystrokes are not going to expected target.

CMD+> or CMD+< move up and down a list of tunes in a list view on my machine.

Choose "Mini View" from the "View" Menu.

This will shrink your main window and make the window behind it visible.

Just a workaround until this problem is being addressed.

Yep, that works. Thanks!

Here are two sure fire easier ways of dealing with this:

Graphical:  Go to the dock icon of MC and long press on it (click and hold).  You'll see a menu.  Choose Options > Show all windows .  Now you'll see all of MC's windows.  Click on the window you want to close to select it.  Now you can close it.

Hot Key:  In all Mac applications <Command>-~ cycles through all open windows.  (Hold down <command> and press the tilde key.  ~ ).  Do this in MC with the Options window open and you will cycle back and forth between the main window and the Options window.  Any MC window that is open will be selected by this hot key.  So just press it until you see the offending small window, then close it.

Once you learn this key combo, it's very, very fast to use it.  It's very similar to <command>-<tab> .  <Command>-<Tab> cycles through open applications.  <Command>-~ cycles through open windows in the current application.  So, very similar and the keys are also close together.

All this should not be necessary!

Fred1, that's a good point.  I would be nice if MC's dialogs like Options would stay on top so they can't get "lost" and produce this kind of behavior.  It's easy enough to work around, but it would certainly be more polished if we didn't need to work around it.  :)
