Linux Problems and Questions
« on: October 01, 2018, 06:30:35 am »

Hi all

so its been two weeks of using MC (after loads of years between V7 to 14 :)) on linux and ofc i love it.

But there are severe bugs/issue that dont happen on wife's windows PC (i confimed) that im trying to figure out weather these are known issues or just on my Arch machine.

so here is the preliminary list

1) No reliable double click? sometimes it works on my machine while other times it dosent and need 4-5 clicks to work. sometimes like when clicking on an album many times it wont work at all!
is that common?
2) Cant reorder tracks anywhere! not in the playlist (in the play tab) and not in playlists
3) Cant reorder playlists at all , also cant cut/copy etc between playlist
4)  `resume playback using bookmarks: automatic` dosent work.
if i pause a songs at 1:11 and restart MC (or the pc) shouldn't the song resume from position 1:11 after i start MC again?
current behavior is to start the track that was paused from the beginning
5) MC dosent remember tab contents after restart. It just restores the number of tabs all with the same 'play' default view

I would really appreciate feedback from the community and developers on this since it would be good to know if these issues are bugs, missing features or planned features

kind regards

  • The color of Spring...

1) Double click where, exactly? I use double click in MC24 with my Arch (running GNOME) install with the panes view and it works fine. Being specific would greatly help. What desktop environment are you using? GNOME? KDE Plasma? Xfce? Might be an issue with one of those too, so knowing that would definitely help.
2 & 3) I think these are known, just missing features that haven't been implemented in MC for Linux.
4) It's possible this doesn't work in MC for Linux yet, not sure.
5) Do you have MC Options > Startup > Startup Interface set with Location: Last Location and Mode: Last Exit View? Those might help.

yes im using arch linux (latest up to date) and latest Gnome 3.30. as i said it tends not to work reliably in many areas. some examples i just tested:
a. Album view: double click an album does nothing (isnt that supposed to play the album)- i have the double click action in setting on `replace playing now`.
b. audio> album-artist pane view: i tried a few double clicks. sometimes it worked other times a double click did nothing.
EDIT: seems like if a do a slow double click this seems to be more consistent..but a normal (fast) double click is still very flaky..

Could a developer let us know? i mean it would be good to confirm its not a bug and to not add redundant feature request :D
