I just tried installing Kubuntu 18.04 on my bedroom HTPC.  It has 8 GB RAM, and an Nvidia GTX960.  I installed the Nvidia drivers for the GPU.

The video was pretty bad, and not sure why.  AV sync was off sometimes, and I got a lot of tearing.  I couldn't find any VSync settings (although, I didn't look that hard) so not sure if that would help or not.

Any ideas?  I couldn't leave it in this state, so I put Win 10 back on the box, but would still like to move this to Linux, but not if it won't work as needed. 

I thought my Tivo Slide Pro remote would be an issue, but I was able to get it to work with no problems.  At least basic stuff.  Wasn't expecting to have a quality problem!

If you experienc tearing with the NVidia proprietary drivers, you might want to try forcing the full composition pipeline in nvidia settings.  That consistently fixes tearing for me.

With respect to av sync issues, I sometimes see them in JRiver for Linux after seeking, but I can't reliably reproduce it.  If you can reprodcue it, post reproduction steps on the build thread.

One other thing, I think I noticed that EDL files also weren't supported in Linux, is that also true?

Any ideas on Tearing with Intel?  I just installed Ubuntu 18.10, and have tearing in the video.

Have you tried this? Mainly in 20-intel-graphics.conf the part about the TearFree option.

Since you're using KDE Plasma, you might also try adjusting the vsync (tearing prevention) in KDE's settings for the compositor.

I was trying Ubuntu, but went ahead and installed Kubuntu, and changed the V-Sync settings.  No tearing now, but if I jump in the timeline, I lose audio...working on that now.

I give up...maybe it's because I am on 18.10, but it constantly is freezing (did this in Ubuntu also), and too many other problems.  I'll just stick with Windows for now.
