Need help with ape tagging
« on: May 29, 2003, 09:33:12 pm »

I rip all my CD's with EAC and compress them to ape format.
When I import them into MC, I immediately 'Fill the properties from filename' to tag them.
This has worked fine for months but now i have started converting files to MP3 for portable use and found I lost the tags during the conversion.
Upon further investigation I found that the ape files are not 'really' tagged. Even Monkey's Audio does not see the tags that MC 'filled from the filename'.
Can anyone explain this.
Is there any way to embed the tags permanently.
I could open all the files in Monkey's and have that program tag them from the filename but that would be monotonous.
PS while we're on monkey's topics...what the heck is an .apl file. I can find no mention in the help file.
Thanks

In Tools/Options/General/Importing & Tagging make sure there is a checkmark in Update Tags When File Info Changes. Otherwise, I believe, info is only saved in the library and not in the tags.

Also, you do know that you can have EAC tag the files when ripping to APE.
