DLNA views lost after migration from MC20 to MC24
« on: November 06, 2018, 01:25:03 am »

Hello there,

I recently migrated from MC20 to MC24 on Windows 7 and on Windows 8.1 (current yesterday's build, 240055 if I remember well). Migration went smoothly, the views I had defined for Gizmo appear correctly in Panel (nice interface, BTW).

However, I did not find again the DLNA views  I had defined, and I had to create them again manually. Is that normal?

BTW, I also lost the expression used to display tracks in DLNA (typically [Track]. [Name] ([Duration]), and the parameters of auto import.

Other parameters correctly migrated, as far as I can see.
Regards.

Have you tried restoring a V20 MC backup into V24? (run a V24 backup first)

No. Since I got immediate access to my library with (almost) all settings preserved, I supposed that a normal migration occured, and did not think about exporting/importing.

I will have a try tonight (UTC+1). Do not expect answer before tomorrow.

BTW, are all these settings associated to a given library, or to MC itself?

Thanks

A backup backs up the CURRENT open library. If you have multiple libraries you would need to backup each in turn.

Note: multiple libraries, although possible, aren't usually the best way to organise things.

I can't honestly say of there will be any difference between an upgrade and a restored backup.  I have always upgraded via a restore and it has worked well enough for me with just minor tweaks. It's not something I particularly enjoy as it's a pain but it does work. The in place upgrades have never worked for me; I put this down to the fact that my MC doesn't run under an administrator account, the upgrade process activates UAC and my theory is that this is the reason my settings have never get migrated (the elevated install context can't access the context that MC is currently running in)

I had the same problem, basically with every upgrade version... until I was told that DLNA views are treated as part of the library, and as such included in each MC back up -- no other way to manually save or restore them I'm afraid...

(I have rather elaborate DLNA views, and had to recreate them all from scratch when upgrading to MC24 recently, so I know the feeling... ;-)

Backing up MC20 library and restoring it in MC24 went just fine.
Thanks for having reminded me about that.

I had begun to recreate my DLNA views by hand, but the backup/restore way is clearly faster and safer.

I just wonder why my WebGizmo/Panel views had been initially migrated, and not my DLNA views, but this is computer wizardry, I can live w/o expecting the response.

Next step, pay for the MC24 license :-)
