[Feature request] Longer channel delays
« on: November 15, 2018, 07:55:34 pm »

I do not know how many people will or can make use of this but I would like to see the maximum channel delay increased from 50ft to 100ft.

There are several DSP-managed loudspeakers now on the market which introduce produce processing latencies up to 90ms.  If one wants to use these on some channels along with non-DSP speakers on other channels, one would need commensurately long delays on those other channels.

In my metric setup the largest distance for Room Calibration is 50 metres, rather than 50 feet. I guess MC is just using 50 as the number, and whatever UOM is set for the system. I assume that you are talking about Room Calibration.

Anyway, if you need more delay you can add that through one of the Parametric Equalizers, by channel or group of channels, and any value of delay in milliseconds.

Sure, okay, that means the "non-DSP" speakers will need some DSP added. But if you are using Room Calibration on them you are doing DSP on them already. Plus using a fake exaggerated listening distance to effect a delay is a bit of a cludge. Not pretty, and difficult to understand at a later time, or by another person.

Coming next build:
Changed: Room Correction DSP allows setting a distance of up to 100 ft instead of 50 ft (or meters if you're metric).

Hopefully the person with speakers 150 meters away won't chime in!

There's nothing to fear with going metric. . . apart from 'it's not invented here'  ;D

No fear here.  I ran my research lab for decades in metric, of course.
