« on: November 26, 2018, 11:36:47 am »

I have media centre 24 and I am looking to get the best setting in JRiver for my Chord Qutest. My audio device setting is ASIO CHORD 1.05(ASIO) my bitstream I got is set aat DSD. It doesn’t show the chord Qutest driver in the drop down option. Anyone any ideas please

Greetings! Please post a screenshot of your MC's Options > Audio section. A screenshot of the list of available audio devices probably wouldn't hurt either but... let me get this correct, you don't see the ASIO output option for the Chord Qutest under the audio devices dropdown menu in MC's options? Are you using the 64-bit or 32-bit version of MC24 (I'm assuming you're using Windows)?

The reason I ask that is if you're wanting to use ASIO and you're using the 64-bit version of MC24 and the ASIO output for your Chord doesn't appear in the audio device dropdown, there's a chance the Chord ASIO driver is 32-bit only, so you'd have to use the 32-bit version of MC24 to use the ASIO output for the Chord in MC24.

Okay, ASIO CHORD 1.05 is probably what you want then since it kinda looks like a generic ASIO device naming scheme type of deal for Chord's DACs. And it does play music, correct? I mean, it works for the Chord Qutest? If so, I'd stick with ASIO if it's working good for you. The "second best", so to speak, would be the WASAPI output. Though, I am kinda interested by the additional ASIO device listed, the ASIO CHORD HUGO 1.03. If you switch to it, does it work too or something else? Or do you have another Chord DAC/device? Just kinda curious why there's two ASIO drivers for Chord DACs available.

Yes it works no problem most of the time. The  Hugo was my other Dac I now have the Qutest. I haven’t tried the Hugo 1.03 just hoping I get the best setting really. How do I find out if I am running the 64 bit software and if not is the 64 bit better.

Ahh, gotcha. If you don't use the Hugo anymore, you can probably uninstall its ASIO driver to avoid any possible conflicts. As for finding out whether or not you're using the 64-bit version, go to the Help menu > About Media Center and if it says (64-bit) in the top of that little window you're using the 64-bit version of MC24, like in this example screenshot...

If it doesn't say (64-bit) at the top, you're using the 32-bit version. That said, since the ASIO driver seems to be working for you, if you're not already using the 64-bit version of MC24 you may not want to change to the 64-bit version. Reason being is like I said before, there may not be a 64-bit ASIO driver available for the Chord if you switch to the 64-bit version of MC24. In addition, switching to the 64-bit version doesn't make it "sound better", if that makes sense.

However, I'm curious on what you mean by it works no problem most of the time. Could you elaborate? Are you encountering occasional issues? Other than that, you're pretty much using the optimal/best setup possible with ASIO.

Thanks great feedback for me. Sometimes I get a crackle no music just white noise. This happens sometimes when I stopped playing though JRiver and return to it after played a vinyl record. I need to close JRiver and start it again it goes and everythingis back to normal.

Is it specific files where the white noise happens, e.g. DSD files? If so, you'll want to set volume to 100% (both the system and within MC itself) when bitstreaming DSD files, otherwise you'll just get noise.

Otherwise, random crackle/glitches while using ASIO sometimes means the latency is set too low. You can adjust the latency, assuming your ASIO driver has the control panel bundled and the ASIO control panel your ASIO driver uses allows adjusting the latency, by going into MC's Options > Audio and clicking on Device settings... when the ASIO driver is selected. From there, click the Open Driver Control Panel... button.

Here's how my ASIO control panel looks (yours probably looks different):

If there's an option to change the latency, try changing/increasing the number.
