RPi 3 and MC24 problem reading library
« on: December 04, 2018, 04:11:16 am »

I was away on holiday for a month and shut down my Rpi 3 while I was away. When I came back I fired it up an it played for about 10 mins and then stopped dead...despite reboot etc it still would not play....so I updated the Rpi 3 and I noticed a newer version of MC24 was installed.....however (see attached screenshot) when I opened the updated version, I find I cannot access any of the music...it is all there...but is nor accessible!!! What have I done wrong?

Where are the media files located? For some reason it cannot access the files. If you were away for a month maybe an ip address changed where the files are, or a network drive didn't get mounted at boot?

Zhillsguy is asking where the actual media files are stored.
On the Pi sdcard?
On an external USB drive?
On a media network share?

Power can be a problem on an external drive.  It can't be powered by the RPi.

How is it connected? USB? Wireless?

How is it mounted on the Raspberry Pi? Are you using fstab? If so, check that.

Does the external drive appear within the Raspberry Pi itself?

Did you try unplugging/replugging the external drive?

Have you tried plugging the external drive to another device, e.g. a PC, to verify it still works?

Sorry, I seem to have corrupted the sd disk by restarting it repeatedly....I will have to reinstall raspian and MC24....thanks to all for for the input and suggestions...I will be back (no doubt) after I have set it all up again! The hard drive is connected to a USB hub and not directly to the RPi. Darn!

Something you can do once you have a working system again with MC installed (and registered) is after setting everything up, turn off the Raspberry Pi then connect the SD card to a Windows computer (you can do this from Linux or Mac too, but I'm using Windows as the example) and use Win32DiskImager to make a copy/image of the entire SD card. That way if your install gets royally screwed up again you can simply reflash the SD card with your backup SD card image and you're back to the races once again, without needing to reinstall everything. I try to do these backups at least once a month.
