MediaCenter 24 Washed Out Image
« on: December 23, 2018, 09:23:13 pm »

Hello all!

I have read the forums about a washed out image, which I am experiencing in MediaCenter 24. I have made sure the madVR PC Levels is at (0-255) and tried the other settings as suggested in this forum but the image is still washed out.

I am playing video from my HTPC computer into a Marantz AV7702MKII AV receiver then out to an Optoma UHD51ALV 4K projector.

The same video looks great running through VLC so it has to be a MediaCenter 24 issue.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Use one of MC's presets for Red October and madVR.

Thank you for the quick reply. I started with the preset right after upgrading without changing any settings. The washed out image was present from the start. I just selected Red October Standard. This does not allow access to madVR so I did not do anything there. I restarted MC and launched a video and it's washed out. I then rebooted the computer, restarted MC, and launched a video and it's still washed out.

Can you play the same media files outside of MC (vlc, ffplay, etc.) on that setup? This would help isolate the problem.

Jim - It is not a cable issue.

ErikN - I can play the same movie in VLC and it looks correct.

I went into the settings and adjuststed the contrast in MC up by 12. It fixed the problem. Perhaps the default settings in MC for Red October should be looked at to make sure the presets have the right values for BRIGHTNESS, CONTRACT, Etc?

for whatever it's worth... updating the video driver, at times, results in a change of the color range setting. if you have it on Full (0-255) it may have gone back to limited 235. it would result in washed out look. don't know if VLC and your other media players are using madVR but you have to account for the driver & madVR's color depth and how your TV handles changes input color range.

Problem solved. I'm not sure if there was a MC update just now or it's because I changed the QUALITY SETTING to "Best Performance"...either way it looks great now. Thanks!
