Still having Media Scheduler problems
« on: May 16, 2003, 09:42:32 am »

I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but my Media Scheduler is still eating any recording task I give it except the first one.  The second, third, etc. are always butchered by reboot.  As troubling as that is, that's a problem I can work around.  I can rewrite them as I need them, and just be careful when I reboot.

However, I have noticed something else.  Sometimes, the media scheduler simply does not trigger what it's supposed to.  My need is for recording, and as it approaches the time for the recorder to activate, the scheduler icon in the taskbar blinks...and then nothing.

Also, and this is a nit-pick, but under the Encoding options, there are three options: CD Ripping, File Conversion and the Sound Recorder.  It seems that the intention was to allow the user to set up three different standards for the three options, but if you choose the same Encoder for two of them, it also shares the Quality variable between the two as well.

I hope that made sense...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I love this product.

With all due respect to MC's awesomeness, I was dissatisfied with its automated recording capabilities, and went with Total Recorder for my scheduled recording needs. You might want to look into http://www.totalrecorder.com for more information. I've been very satisfied with it.

I used to use Total Recorder, but I always had trouble with it when I shut down the system.  What I really love about MJ and now MC is the ability to get rid of extra programs in favor of a single one that does everything quite well.  While I could still re-install Total Recorder, I'd prefer it if I didn't have to.  Which is why I was hoping this error could be addressed at some point.

I realize that something like MC requires a lot of work and the scheduler is only a small, relatively unimportant part, but that part is not at all reliable.

hi tweener - I have just installed the upgrade to MC 9 and on my initial tests, the recorder works okay. ( I still ensure that MC is not running when the recording is to start) - the real test will come tomorrow when i try to record a 2hr radio show 12pm - 2am ! wish me luck

gigijoey,
???What I want to know is whether you can play back the 2 hour radio show? I've been asking to be able to play back longer recordings for months now, but the MC folk don't seem interested. So I have to play back anything longer than about 1hr 37 minutes in Windows Media Player, because MC flips out after that point and can't be paused, fast forwarded, the time reads negative, etc. I wouldn't mind automatically splitting my radio track into one hour segments, but I can't get tracks to split either (except by sensing gaps, which doesn't allow for any control of the length of each track).

Curtis,

I've had the same trouble you're having, though I never figured out just where the system breaks down.  An hour and 37 minutes sounds right, though.
