Video streaming stops after 23 minutes
« on: February 05, 2019, 12:16:39 am »

I love video streaming from my Mac in the second floor to a Sony TV in the base floor. The quality is amazing and the streaming (with Devolo powerline adapters) absolutely stable and reliable.
But for some weeks now I have the problem that every movie stops after about 22 or 23 minutes. Restarting the app and network always leads to the same result (Mac - MC 24.0.74/ Mojave 10.14.3). Every movie ends at exactly the same place.
With music there is no problem and I can play the movies on the Mac up to the end.

Some power setting?  Going into a low power state after a period of "inactivity".  Monitor shutting off, for example.

I am wondering how many Mega Bytes of data is represented by your 23 minutes limit? Do you have a disk limit or a download limit of some sort?

No, no limit at all. I tried many movies now and the described phenomena only occurs with some of them but I have no idea why. On my Mac there is no problem to play the movies.
The items which had the problem all are quite long: the three episodes of "Godfather", Bertolucci's "1900" and "Once upon in America"

Check your Windows power settings.

Each time movie plays, it just stops.
It has been going on for over a year.
It is both Windows 64 bit, and amd64 oses.
Thanks.
George.

I see the OP is using a Mac, not Windows, but the problem is almost certainly due to power management settings. When I started using MC for movies, they would always stop after 20 minutes. I knew the cause - the external USB drive would sleep after a period of inactivity, and MC couldn't wake it up fast enough to continue playback. It didn't happen with music because I didn't ever try to play a track long enough to let the HD sleep. I adjusted Windows power settings, to no avail, and I couldn't find a utility that would let me alter the drive's behaviour. Finally, in a last-ditch attempt I updated the OS from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and that gave me the control I needed to keep the USB port awake.

My advice to the OP is to experiment with the Mac. If you can't find an obvious power management setting, try something simple like using the Mac 10 minutes into the movie (open some files stored where the movie is stored, access the network).
