I'm a dumba**! - wrecked my tags! Help?
« on: May 22, 2003, 06:37:05 am »

Never mind HOW I managed to do this but I have just about completed the ripping of my 1000 or so CDs and last night I figured out a way to over write the tag on my entire collection to the same artist. :-[

So I am hoping there is a way to correct this without doing it manually.  My directory structure is Artist/Album and that is intact.  Is there a way to update my tags using the directory name?  (I tried updating the tags from YADB but it only seems to work when I pick one album at a time - and even that has mixed results, not to mention would take forever!)

Please help....

Thanks.
Darren

Yes, it's quite easy: Get MP3 Tag Studio (http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts) (you'll get a free version that shows an ad, but it's not spyware). Then you use the "auto tag from filename" option and this formula: <Artist>\<TRASH>\<TRASH> Then it will put the artist name in the artist field and leave the rest of the fields. But one word of caution and one disclaimer: Use the Preview mode, and be ready to undo. And I take no responsibility and so on, and so on.  ;D

He may do the same thing from within MC9... Properties->Library Tools without having to use an additional program  ;)

Yes, MC -> Fill Properties From Filename

Also, MC has undo in case you ever need it.

Wino - U have my FULL sympathies - I did this by accient too with MC9.

Took me quite a while to tag all my filies alot.

Alot of work lost and alot of time.

Ur lucky u just messed up one field.

U can fill in just the artist field really easily from ur naming structure with MC9.

Matt - Could we please have the 'undo' feature keep it's memory accross all sessions so if MC crashes we can still undo when we restart it? Pretty please :)

whats in a name?

What is in a name,
When the person inside is the same,
We call each other many things,
Just natures way to straighten out the game,
We are each just the person seen by others,
No matter the title given by our mothers,
Some little people grow into big names,
Some big people grow out of little names,
There are others no matter it stays the same,
So Peanut, or Skip, or Billy Bob, or JR,
Winston Archibald III oh well we are who we are,
Stripped of our titles each alone but the same,
Your heart and soul make whats in your name.
Be proud to be who you are,
Write it in the stars,
Never hold your head in shame,
Its special whats in your name.

Even though I'm a little teary eyed from the above post... I did want to thank you all for your help.  I used the Library Tools in MC9 and fixed everything up.
No harm done!

Cheers!
