Playback to Network Devices

On advice of my local hardware dealer I installed JRiver.

Why is there no clear distinction between audio data (input) sources and audio output devices ("renderers" in your terms)?
I acknowledge that media devices can be data (input) device "Media server", output device (player, renderer, dac), or both. And adding network players can only be achieved by setting up "media centers". If my player was a media center it would certainly have its own web-interface nowadays. No reason to install JRiver. [Only because of limitations to that web-interface I want JRiver to find it as output device.]

There seems to be no clear way to configure, order and  my physical output devices. My hifi DAC, nicknamed "Marvin" of brand Moon appeared for whatever reason after almost ten minutes in the list "Playing Now" alongside a "Player" and a "Playing from Main library" while Marvin or any other device was playing anything from a (not selected) source.

Adding a network streaming (radio) channel can only be done by right-clicking an existing item in the list, while default items cannot be deleted.

I will try it some days but probably will not buy a license.

My output devices are not visible in "Audio", which seems to be an data input/source/link to library and in "Drives & Devices" which is just another access to data.

I changed your topic to better describe your question and removed some of the attitude.

Please better describe what you want to do and your setup.  It appears that you have a DAC that you want to play to via a network connection.  Is that correct?

Why can software like JRiver not present a "device" like any other sound device in the OS?

I searched on "user interface" on this forum and found myself not being the only one. In the mean time I found SWYH, which does just that and combines it with any media server you like. But it has delays from tens of seconds and is not native.
 
I uninstalled JRiver already from my laptop, still giving it a change on my desktop. Why does JRiver not present my network player anywhere else than in the list "Playing Now" which suggests that you can plug in to the network player is media server. I just want to see my network player as device to send to.

A few thoughts

Is your renderer DLNA capable?

Is it WiFi or hard wired?

Go to options>audio does it show in the drop down at the top?

Some renderers play hard to get. I have they all show immediately everything is powered up

Maybe persevere there’s loads of experience on the forum to tap into

You may want to download the DMRA from my sig, run the test, and see if it discovers your renderer or not. If so then please send the renderer report. If not, then it would indicate that you have some kind of problem with your LAN, router, or firewall (and not a problem wi5h MC).

You guys are not understanding.

Ronn is throwing a fatal error when all it's doing is trying to add my music to its library.  In other words, I'm not even trying to hit a playback device yet.  And the music that I'm trying to add is local to the Roon installation.

Something is VERY wrong and I'm very frustrated.

I am confused are  you in the right forum ?

I would suggest you re post in the Roon Community and describe your system in detail there. There are loads of experienced users who will help you just this forum
