Can MC21 and MC24 peacefully co-exist?

(1/4) > >>

macdonjh:
I updated to MC24 (in anticipation of MC25...), and never deleted MC21 from my computer.  I didn't have any problems until I had a disc or two to rip.  I had MC21 closed and MC24 open but when I opened "rip disc" in Tools, MC21 opened and I could only rip the disc using MC21 (I tried closing MC21, but it reopened when I pushed the "rip disc" "button").

Today I had a new problem, too.  I ripped a disc and my library in MC24 wouldn't recognize the new files (they appeared immediately in the library in MC21).  I tried auto-import, I dried import a single folder.  I could see the new files in MC24 if I highlighted "Audio" in the "Tree" and then did a search on the Artist name, but the new files didn't appear in the Recently Ripped smartlist, the Recently Imported smartlist, in the Tree under the Artist name.

I know I should just delete MC21, and I will.  But I am curious about how MC21 and MC24 are acting together.  Any ideas?

blgentry:
I would bet that your Mac's preferences are set to open MC21 when you insert a CD.  Go to System Preferences (the gear looking icon on the dock) and then CDs & DVDs.  Find the preference for what to do when inserting a CD.  If it's set to MC21, change it to MC24.  That should do it.

Good luck.

Brian.

macdonjh:
Thanks, Brian, I'll look.  I don't remember even setting a preference, other than "play"  and "HDMI" (for output) for CDs or DVDs.

Graham Hitchcox:
Was using MC18 over my 4 pc.s home and notebook. But now that I purchased the upgrade = all my playlists are gone.

It's strange that MC24 also does not consider my prior rules. Hope MC25 will allow me to see my private content, also to see all public content!

Awesome Donkey:
Do a library backup in MC18 and restore that library backup in MC24.
