Moving JRiver to a new laptop
« on: March 24, 2019, 10:41:02 am »

Hi,

Sorry for being so inept at all of this but I own JRiver 23 and have recently purchased a new laptop.  I'd like to upgrade the latest version of JRiver, move my backup library from the old computer to the new and have the latest version of JRiver installed, with all my thumbnails, playlists etc installed on the new computer.  Not sure how to make that happen.  If anyone could offer some step by step guidance it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

The wiki has a topic called moving files.  You might want to do one step at a time.  Move the files and get things running with the version you have, then upgrade.

Thanks for the response.  Honesly, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get my current version MC23 onto my new computer.  I've done it before so not sure why I can't figure it out this time.  But, again, all help would be appreciated.

Are you moving the actual media files to your new computer as this will make a difference to what you need to do. You see you need to state clearly what your current set up is so that forum members can assist. If we are firing off into the dark anything could happen!

Sorry.  No. I have all my music stored on a separate external hard drive that's backed up to the cloud.  Just want to get everything setup so I have my playlists, etc.

Thanks.  I now have MC23 installed and the license restored.  Next step would be to import my backup folder into the program, right?  I made it on my old computer and now have it on my desktop on the new computer.  What's the next step, please?

Actually, the whole process was very easy.

1) install MC23 on new computer
2) Get restoration key to restore the license
3) In old computer, using MC23, create a backup library and copy it to someplace easy to find on the new computer- desktop always does the trick
4) Import backup library into MC23

5) plug in external hard drive (where all my music is stored) into new computer and, if necessary, change the file path letter for the external (I had to change D to E) to match all the file paths already established in JRiver

6) Listen to music
