Today I downloaded MediaCenter 250018 (several times) in a Win Vista SP2 system. Clicking on the executable returns the error message "installLauncher.exe fails to load jrtools". This machine has NO anti virus software installed ( at present), Win Firewall is turned OFF, and I selected "Unblock" in the MediaCenter.exe Properties panel. After searching the forum I find no ideas on a fix. Can someone please offer a suggestion to install the package?

Probably a Windows Vista issue. The current Windows System Requirements are Windows 7 or above: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Windows_System_Requirements  Hopefully you aren't missing any components from Vista that MC needs. There are changes in MC25 with video handling that need updates for Windows 10, so Vista might be missing bits. MC25 uses ANGLE to select between OpenGL and Direct3D, for example. The selection for Legacy 3D (Direct 3D9) has been removed, although MC will still use D3D9 if required. You can't get updates for Vista anymore, can you?

You could try deleting the MC program directory and reinstalling. Maybe after a clean reboot. I'm sure you tried re-running the installer over the top of the MC25 installation already.

Otherwise, if you are searching the forum, did you just search for "JRTools". That will give you lots of threads to check. It is a relatively common issue, and is usually the install environment that is the problem.

Possibly Vista acting as a software nanny and blocking the install.

You could try disabling UAC (User Account Control)  Control Panel, User Accounts, User Accounts again, click “Turn turn User Account Control On or Off”.  Take the check mark out of the box next to “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.  Reboot the computer and try and install the program.

or right click on the installer exe file and select Run as Administrator.

If I recall correctly this has been reported a few times in the last few months, and it's probably because Windows Vista isn't supported anymore with MC like Roderick said.

It doesn't really need to be said, but honestly from a security point of view if you're still running Windows Vista I would *highly* recommend either upgrading to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 (and not Windows 7, since support for it ends within a year) or replacing Windows with a Linux distro like Linux Mint as soon as possible. It's not worth risking security running an old, outdated and dead operating system.

Agree with AD here. Even if what I suggested works running an OS that has been EOL for a few years now is a huge risk especially if networked.

If the cost or hardware required to go to Win 10 is prohibitive then as he suggests a Linux platform could be a good solution.

I want to thank you all for your suggestions. Since I was trying jriver and my older laptop had a DVD drive it seemed the best short term solution. jviver website does say Vista is supported so I will try your suggestions. I did however, install the package on my Win 10 machine with no problems, just no convenient DVD drive. Thanks again.

In all likelihood the main website may need to be updated to remove Vista from the system requirements, matching the wiki.
