DSP button not blue anymore in MC 25
« on: April 10, 2019, 09:16:23 am »

Hi everybody
Have been using MC for several years now and never had issues. I only use it for Audio but with the latest update to MC 25 I have some problems with the DSP button.
In earlier versions of MC the DSP button always turned blue when playing bit perfect files. Not so in MC 25 and I really miss that. Please tell me this has not been intentionally changed. :(
I still have MC 24 installed and have very thoroughly compared all settings I have in MC 24 and MC 25 and everything looks the same to me. Button turns blue in MC 24 but not so in MC 25. Might I have missed something or could it be a bug? Any help would be very appreciated.

OK, well, that's the most obvious (and easy) question dealt with :)

Not all skins come equipped with the blue dsp button, but Black on Black most definately does.

Unfortunately, that's me out of ideas as I am not in a position to use the bit perfect options MC provides. Hopefully, someone will respond with more positive help shortly.

My only thought to leave you with, that may, or may not, help others to help you...

When playing something that you think should light up the blue button, when you hover over the dsp button, it should give you some 'audio path' information. If my meagre understanding is correct, there should be no DSP interference showing there if you have bit perfect playback? Are there any clues in your 'audio path' information?

-marko.

Thanks marko and Manfred (actually my very name as well :) ) for your replies. Hopefully Matt or Jim H may have a solution. Could it be worth the trouble to uninstall all versions of MC I have on both computers ( one I use for musicserver only and desktop computer - both have the same issue and both with win10 pro) and only reinstall MC 25 from scratch?

Could you report here what Audio Path is saying?  I think it should hold the key.

Thanks.

Thanks for joining Matt. I'll list a few settings that might (or might not) have some influence on this for both of my computers - see below
Desktop computer, win10pro:
Memory playback settings for both MC 24 & MC 25: Load decoded file into memory
DSP Studio settings for both MC 24 & MC 25:
no checkmarks anywhere except for “Output Format”
Output Encoding “None”
Channels: 2 channels (stereo)
Mixing: JRSS mixing
Subwoofer: JRSS Subwoofer (120 HZ low-pass)
Sample rate: (listing only 3 values here) 44,100 Hz, 96,000 HZ, 192,000 HZ all set to No change
Audio Path MC 24: Direct
Input: 96 Khz 24 bit 2 ch from source format FLAC
Changes: No changes are being made
Output: 96 Khz 32 bit 2 ch using WASAPI (direct connection)
Audio Path MC 25: (empty after “Audio Path”)
Input: 96 Khz 24 bit 2 ch from source format FLAC
Changes: Playing decoded file from memory
Output: 96 Khz 32 bit 2 ch using WASAPI (direct connection)
Music Server, win10pro:
Memory playback settings for both MC 24 & MC 25: Load decoded file into memory
DSP Studio settings for both MC 24 & MC 25:
no checkmarks anywhere except for “Output Format”
Output Encoding “None”
Channels: 2 channels (stereo)
Mixing: JRSS mixing
Subwoofer: JRSS Subwoofer (120 HZ low-pass)
Sample rate: less than 44,100 Khz > 44,100 Khz, everything else set to “No change”
Audio Path MC 24: Direct
Input: 96 Khz 24 bit 2 ch from source format FLAC
Changes: No changes are being made
Output: 96 Khz 32 bit 2 ch using ASIO (direct connection)
Audio Path MC 25: (empty after “Audio Path”)
Input: 96 Khz 24 bit 2 ch from source format FLAC
Changes: Playing decoded file from memory
Output: 96 Khz 32 bit 2 ch using ASIO (direct connection)

Only difference I can see is that MC 24 states "No changes are being made" on both computers but MC 25 states "Playing decoded file from memory"
Note that settings for memory playback are the same for both MC 24 and MC 25 on both computers.
Hope that helps identifying the problem.
It's getting a bit late here in Sweden so it's bedtime now. Any replies or further information from me will come tomorrow. Thanks and good night.

I bet the memory playback thing makes the light not come on.  I'll try to figure it out tomorrow.  Thanks.

Yep, using any memory playback options is why it doesn't turn blue. Wonder if it also happens when using HDCD decoding too?

Next build:
Fixed: The blue light would not illuminate if memory playback was enabled.

Thanks for the help :)
