mkv rip alternates between widescreen and full screen?

Hi

i was watching a rip (makemkv) of Interstellar on MC and noticed that the picture alternated from widescreen (letterbox) to fullscreen (16:9). it seemed to be scene linked.

Is this abnormal, a makemkv artefact or something else?

Thats just how the movie was made. Some scenes are ultra-wide, some are 16:9.

some movies do switch between aspect ratios … Doctor Strange, Life of Pi, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Guardian of Galaxy … just to name few

you can check www.blu-ray.com … they have pretty accurate info on discs (including aspect ratios used in movies)
