NUC and RAM - novice question
« on: May 25, 2019, 09:28:13 pm »

Will the amount of ram have much of an impact on performance with JRiver, or is it more related to the processor speed.  I'm thinking of getting an i7 NUC and would like to be able to convert to DSD on the fly so I know I need a speedy machine.  Will 16 vs. 32 gigs of ram make much of a difference?
Thanks for your help:)

Not enough memory can have an impact, but both 16 and 32gb are plenty for all tasks MC can do.

Thank you for the reply. Would 8gb of ram also be sufficient, or is that calling it close?
The reason I ask is the current NUC I have has 8gb and JRiver seems to hang intermittently on things like forwarding to the next song, starting playlists, etc...
The current one is the NUC6CAYH.
I might upgrade to 16gb if you think 8gb may be too little.
Thanks, again:)

The integrated GPU will benefit from a dual-channel setup (2x4GB) instead of a single (1x8GB) stick. 8GB will be plenty for a HTPC.
