Starting MC9 with iPod docked crashes MC9
« on: May 14, 2003, 05:56:52 am »

I am running the latest trial version of MC9, with the newest (5-13) iPod plug-in.  If my ipod is docked to the system, MC9 will crash when starting the program.  The error is related to the plug-in.  (I am not home, but can get more details later, if needed).  If I undock the iPod, start MC9 and then dock, the ipod is then correctly listed in MC9.

Is there anything I can do to remedy this situation?

Thanks,
Rob

I've noticed similar behavior w/my 30GB iPod. I detailed my stuff in the main iPod support thread at the bottom of page 2.

I didn't think the dock had anything to do with it, although I am using it. I'll have to experiment later to see if using only the cable helps...

Rob,

I do not have a dock to check this.  When does MC crash, when you click on the drive letter, or when you start MC? If it is when you click on the drive letter, can you confirm (berfore you click on the drive letter) that the drive is accesible and can be selected from Explorer?

Thanks,

Steve

It crashes when I try to open the program, not when accessing the drive letter.  I never get *that* far  :-/

As long as I have the iPod undocked, I can run the program, then dock the iPod, and then all is well.

As I mentioned, I reinstalled the program, and re-downloaded the iPod hand-held driver, but neither helped.

Please let me know if you need any more info, or want me to try something else that will help track this down.

Rob,

I am having a hard time coming up with how this is possible. What directory do you have MC set to start up in? If not CD, DVD, Handhelds I do not think the crash is related to the iPod. Why do you think it is?

To clarify some things in my original post:

1) It doesn't matter whether the iPod is connected via the cable or the dock.

2) The iPod is usable as an external drive from the Win2k Explorer in both cases.

3) MC9 crashes in both cases when the drive letter is clicked in the tree.

Other posts lead me to believe that my particular problem is due to a corrupt database (on the iPod or in MC9), so I'll reformat the iPod and see if that takes care of things with MC.

Thanks!

Please use the iPod support thread.
