Add keyboard shortcut to delete files
« on: June 01, 2019, 03:51:36 am »

In macOS using CMD+Backspace usually can be used to delete highlighted files. Can we have this shortcut also in MC?

Wait.  You have a computer that doesn't have a delete key?  ;)

On my Pixelbook, delete is the Chrome key and backspace.

Delete is similar to backspace.  Backspace deletes the character behind the cursor.  "Delete" deletes the character in front of the cursor.  PC keyboards have had delete for a long time.  Maybe since the beginning?  But Macs didn't see the need for quite a while.  Now they have it too, but it's a tiny bit hidden.  Delete is accessed via Function-Backspace on a Mac laptop.

MC has a pretty good keyboard remapping file where you can make your own shortcuts for various things.  In this case I'd probably just use Function-Backspace, but you might be able to remap this to an additional key if you want to.  I'm just not sure what the core command is.  I think it might be "Media Center Delete", which is core command 21004.  But I'm not sure as I have not tested it.

Not that it matters much, but here's the original IBM PC keyboard.  The Delete key is at the lower right.

It was considered a pretty deluxe keyboard at the time.
