Read aloud narrator when streaming movies?
« on: June 11, 2019, 11:24:46 am »

When I stream DVD movies (VIDEO_TS) from my media server 25 to windows 10 machines, there is a “read aloud narrator”, whether subtitles are on or off.  This happens on all browsers (FF, IE, edge), including the browser on the media server.  Some kind of hearing impaired setting that I cannot find. This could be certain movies only, but they play fine via media center.

Oddly enough, on version 23 and 24, I only had this issue with FireFox.  Does anyone know where this setting is controlled or encountered something similar?

Please describe your setup more fully.  How are you using a browser, for example?

Please see the attached screenshot from my actual media server that hosts JRiver.  Whether I stream on the local server's browser or client browsers on my network, I get the same results.  It plays fine through Media Center 25.  This is only on browsers.

Steps to reproduce:
Open Browser on any machine in the house.
type in http://192.168.1.86:52199/Panel/#/browse
select "movies" icon/album
select play on a DVD movie.

Win10 x64 on server and client PC's.

sounds to me like “Audio Description” audio track ... which has nothing to do with subtitles

some Bluray have this ... its for visually imared people who cannot see well ... so audio tracks has narrator describing whats going on

you need to choose normal audio track ... its a bit strange though ... as usualy Audio Description track is not a default one

Do I configure that under Tools=>Options=>Audio within Media Center?  If so, I cannot find the setting.

AudioDescription is just another extra audio track on disc (like director’s commentary)  ... other than “language”, there is no tag that can identified it as such ... so there are no special settings for enabling or disabling it

As any audio track on disc, its selection should be governed by your setting for audio language. As I understand, if you have several audio tracks with same language, MC will pick the first one on the list (this should work as main title is usually first one on the list ... followed by AudioDescription if any, then tracks in foreign language, commentary are usually at the end of the list)

Never used browsers for watching movie ... but you should be able to change audio track there to corect one? (it might be annoying to do this every time)

Without more info ... my wild guess would be ... main audio track is multichannel ... AudioDescription track is stereo ... web browser tells MC it prefers stereo stream ... then MC picks AudioDescription track

PS. Could you post MediaInfo for the largest VOB file in VIDEO_TS (for the disc that have this problem) ... might help to pinpoint exact nature of problem
