Alphabet in Theater view?
« on: June 13, 2019, 02:01:26 am »

Hi,
I'm starting to get quite an extended library and are wondering if there is a way to get a alphabet line as a slider in GRID VIEW in theater view?
I control my theater view by remote and to be able to select the initial word of the movie/artist and then be taken directly there would be great.

The Alphabet line I'm referring to that would be great to also have in GRID VIEW in theater view is attached as a jpg.

The use case would be that I enter Theater View and movies Grid view.
When there the "cursor" would be on the first letter and if I would like to go to the letter "M" I press right arrow on my remote until I arrive at the letter "M". When there the grid view would position itself so that the movies that starts with the letter "M" would be in view. From there I would simply press arrow down to start scrolling thru my movies as usual in Grid view.

i second that be nice to have it visual, on some remotes they dont have letters just numbers unlike windows mce remotes which have both (that being said if you have a windows mce remote just press the buttons of the alphabet letters jumps media center to that letter like you want without the alphabet strip)

Hi,
yes a remote with the alphabet would be nice but I'm going for the bare minimum with my remote and I use a FLIRC V2 IR adapter and a simple AllforOne universal remote that I have programmed to send the necessary commands to both JRiver/MadVr and my Marantz Receiver.

Try the numbers.  They should jump to corresponding alpha locations.  Think of a cell phone that has numbers.  It works the same way.   Pressing 5, for example jumps to J.  Pressing 5,5 quickly jumps to K.   Pressing 5,5,5 quickly jumps to L.

Add this as an expression view in Theater view

Code: [Select]
IfElse(
IsEqual(ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ, Left(Clean([Name], 2), 1), 8), Left(Clean([Name], 2), 1),
1, 0-9 etc.
)

Great and thank you for your suggestion.
I do not quite get it to work as intended with an alphabet ruler at the top.

I can get the  Grid view to group all of my movies under the corresponding letter but that is not exactly what I was looking for. If I put the code in the "Expression to display" insted of in the "Expression to group by" all of the movies is grouped under "unassigned"

I already have a couple of expressions in Grid view that insert year and keyword and also color code that data i Grid view.

Please advise on further implementation.

I attach a couple of screen shots...

The screen shot:
Expression view.jpg = shows how I implemented the suggested code
Almost ruler.jpg = shows the result

Tilte expression.jpg and  Series expression.jpg = shows my current rules

Sorry, I should have been more clear.  You won't get an Alphabet ruler at the top, but I thought you'd find my suggestion a reasonable alternative.  Your second screenshot was the intended result.

Ok, great.
I have implemented your suggestion into my "name" view, thank you for that.

Let see if there is a way to get a alphabet ruler on top of a theater view.

Otherwise I hope it makes it into the suggestion box for future updates.

Thanx again for helping out
